The Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) celebrated the tenth anniversary of its efforts to protect the environment. At the anniversary conference, it published figures and statistics on changes in, for example, pesticide use and CO2 reduction. She said that 85 percent of the vineyard soils are now planted with grass and wild herbs. In addition, 60 percent of the cultivated areas now belong to environmental certification programs such as ISO 14,000 or the French HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale). The use of toxic CME substances has been reduced by only 20 percent over the past ten years. The use of copper has remained at a stable level, while the use of sulphur has increased by 30 percent. On the other hand, the environmentally friendly protection against infections of the vines through sexual disorientation of the insects has increased from zero in 2015 to 14 percent.

At the conference, however, it became clear that mildew in the Bordeaux region is a growing and difficult to control threat to the vines due to climatic changes. In the 2018 vintage, the infestation had risen to the highest level since the beginning of the documentation of the values of 20 years.
