The Freyburg-Unstrut (Saale-Unstrut) winegrowers' association has reported record sales for its 2016/2017 business year. According to the report, it sold 2.5 million litres of wine worth around 9.4 million euros in this period. This was about half a million euros more than in the previous business year, the cooperative announced. The most important source of sales is currently the supermarket chains. Direct sales to gastronomy and specialised trade, however, are becoming more and more important, accounting for about 25 per cent of the turnover. Internet sales are also increasing noticeably, but the share of turnover is only about 1.4 per cent.

In the future, the winegrowers' cooperatives also want to offer more sparkling wine, secco and non-alcoholic wine. Initial trials have been successful.

The winegrowers' cooperative, founded in 1934, currently has about 400 producers. They currently cultivate about 400 hectares of vineyards. Most of their land is in Saxony-Anhalt, with a smaller area in Thuringia.
