At the supervisory board meeting of Österreich Wein Marketing (ÖWM), managing director Willi Klinger announced his retirement. He will give up his function as managing director at the end of 2019. In the coming year, "an orderly succession arrangement" will be completed, he said a few days ago.
The 62-year-old Klinger said he wanted to pave the way for a generational change in good time. "You have to know when it's time," Klinger stressed, adding that he wanted to "take on another challenge at international level" after 2019.
Österreich Wein Marketing GmbH was founded in 1986 as a result of the wine scandal and was strongly involved in the steep upward trend of the Austrian wine industry. Klinger has led ÖWM since 2007 as its sixth managing director. He pursued a consistent quality strategy. During this time, Austrian wine also achieved a high international reputation and set new export records.
