On 1 May the VDP winery Prinz Salm (Nahe) celebrated the 800th anniversary of its large Felseneck vineyard with a "Spectaculum" in Wallhausen. The vineyard was first mentioned in a document dated 1 May 1219, the winery announced.

The document is based on an obligation of a direct ancestor of the current owner, Felix Prinz zu Salm-Salm: 800 years ago, Eberbach Monastery was obliged to make payments to the Wallhausen community, but did not always comply with them. On 1 May 1219, the local lord of Wallhausen, Godebold von Weierbach, made a promise to the assembled parish that he would take over the payments. In return he made his vineyards in the "Breitwiesen" available. The document received was the first written evidence of this vineyard location in Wallhausen.

Like their ancestors, the Salm family has been cultivating this vineyard in the "Breitwiesen" without interruption ever since. In 1743 Hugo Philipp von Dalberg had all the vineyards re-measured and recorded, Karl-Alexander von Dalberg had them classified in 1819.

Today the Prinz Salm winery is managed by Prince Felix and Princess Victoria. They cultivate 18 hectares in the Nahe and Rheinhessen wine growing regions. They cultivate 73 percent Riesling, in addition to Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Scheurebe, Merlot and the historic variety Osteiner
