The Bischel winery in Appenheim (Rheinhessen) has been part of the VDP since 1 January 2019. The estate is run by brothers Christian and Matthias Runkel, already the fifth generation of the family. They own vineyards in the Gau-Algesheim St. Laurenzikapelle, the Bingen Scharlachberg and the Appenheim Hundertgulden. From these they produce about 120,000 bottles a year. They grow Riesling, Silvaner, Chardonnay, Scheurebe and Sauvignon Blanc as well as Frühburgunder and Spätburgunder.
In 2016, the winery received the "Rising Star of the Year" award from Gault Millau. It is now considered one of the most renowned and best wineries in the region.
