In Berlin, Federal Minister of Agriculture Christian Schmidt honoured the winners of the Federal Organic Farming Competition 2018. The VDP-Weingut am Stein in Würzburg was the only winery to be awarded the prize. According to Schmidt, it prevailed over the competition through "special commitment, convincing concepts and extraordinary ideas."

The award-winning wineries each receive prize money of 7,500 euros. A total of 24 companies had applied for the national competition. Since 2001, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture has been honouring companies that have been particularly successful with pioneering concepts in organic farming.

The jury awarded the Ludwig and Sandra Knoll family from Weingut am Stein in Würzburg for their overall farm concept. It belongs to the Naturland association. The Knolls had convinced the jury with their high level of commitment and innovative spirit in improving the quality of organic wines. In addition, they are consistently guided by the principles of sustainability in viticulture and are also committed to the preservation of old grape varieties. In addition, they succeed "through many events and specially created educational trails, to enthuse consumers for organic viticulture far beyond their regular customer base".
