Last year, around 1,400 trained wine guest guides, cultural and wine ambassadors as well as wine experience guides informed more than 200,000 people about German wine in around 10,000 guided tours nationwide. This was the result of a survey conducted by the German Wine Institute (DWI) on the occasion of the DWI Forum Culture & Wine, which recently took place in the Rheingau.

Since 2010, the DWI has invited wine guides from all wine-growing regions to this forum once a year for an exchange of experiences and further training. With 111 participants, the offer has met with the greatest response to date. The number of wine guides is also steadily increasing from year to year: Compared to 2010, it has more than doubled, the DWI reports.

In the view of the wine institute, the wine guest guides make "a valuable contribution to the promotion of wine culture in Germany". In addition, with their individual offers for holidaymakers and residents, they promote wine tourism, which is becoming increasingly important as an economic factor for the wine industry. In addition, more and more wineries and winegrowers' cooperatives are taking advantage of the offers of the wine ambassadors to provide additional cultural and touristic wine experiences for their travelling customers.
