According to the British business magazine "The Economist", Singapore was in 2018 the most expensive city in the world to buy wine. Its annually published Cost of Living Index also includes a detailed analysis of the purchase of a 0.75l bottle of average table wine in cities around the world. It is based on private wine purchases in all forms of trade, but not on restaurant orders. The commissioned institute found a handsome price difference between 3.35 dollars and 28.77 dollars. According to this, table wine is most expensive in Singapore, followed by Paris and Zurich. Next in line in the top ten are Hong Kong, Oslo, Geneva, Seoul, Copenhagen, Tel Aviv and Sydney.

With the exception of Singapore, the statisticians observed price increases of varying magnitude in all the cities mentioned compared with 2017, with Paris registering the highest inflation: there, a bottle of table wine last year cost 15 percent more than in 2017.
