The traditional wine auction of the Hospices de Beaune (Burgundy) has achieved a new record result. Wine was sold for a total of 13.1 million euros. This is the highest value ever achieved, the auction house Christie's announced. The average price of a filled barrique was 21,823 euros, about 30 per cent above last year's result. 471 red wine barriques and 118 white wine barriques came to auction.

The record price was achieved by a barrel of Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru Cuvée Dames de Flandres for 149,000 euros. It went to a US bidder who bid by telephone. There were 123 buyers from 20 nations at the auction.
