The well-known Portuguese wine and port wine estate Niepoort in the Douro Valley has repositioned itself. The owner Dirk Niepoort now holds 95 percent of the shares in the company after taking over the shares of his sister and his mother. He now owns 95 percent of the winery, the other five percent being held by his general manager José Teles. This means there are no more "endless meetings", Dirk Niepoort told "Wine Spectator". The management is now significantly faster, more agile and more flexible than before.

In addition, he has replaced the team of oenologists for his red wines. The previous winemaker Carlos Raposo has left Niepoort, but will continue to work on the Viinho Verdee production as a consultant. He has been replaced by 22-year-old Marco Niepoort - son of Dirk Niepoort - and Luís Pedro Cândido. Port wine production is not affected by the changes.
