The specialist wine retailer Wein Stork from Lüdinghausen (North Rhine-Westphalia) is the winner of this year's specialist wine retailer award, which is awarded annually by the German Wine Institute (DWI) in cooperation with the trade magazine Wein + Markt. The Stuttgart-based company Wein-Moment emerged from the competition as runner-up, followed by the wine trade Vinocentral from Darmstadt. For the first time, the jury also awarded a special prize, which was won by the regional chain store Wein Wolff from Leer (Schleswig-Holstein).

The jury placed a high value on expert advice from qualified staff when assessing the candidates. Other criteria included the presentation of the wines, which should include different grape varieties and come from as many regions as possible. "The award-winning specialist retailers met these requirements in an exemplary manner, as unannounced on-site visits also showed," the statement said.

The jury's special prize was awarded to Wein Wolff, a family business founded over 200 years ago, for its exemplary "shop-in-shop" concept. In addition to its main store in Leer, the specialist wine retailer maintains 17 other branches that are stylishly integrated into regional grocery shops.

The three winners of the specialised trade award will receive merchandise vouchers from the competition sponsors "Zwiesel Kristallglas" and "Howasped" as well as vouchers for staff training by the DWI with a total value of 6,000 euros. They will also be appointed to the jury for the election of the German Wine Queen 2020 in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.
