Founded in 2019, the French association "Syndicat de Défense des Vins Nature'l", together with the French Ministry of Agriculture and the "Institut national de l'origine et de la qualité" (INAO), wants to create a national and European quality framework for the production of natural wine. Despite the discussion about the details of the rules, the association wants to push through the name "vin méthode nature" as the designation of the new category. It is in accordance with the designation law of the European Union. Terms such as "natural wine" "vin nature" or "natural wine", on the other hand, were not permissible.

The grapes for production had to come from organic farming and had to be harvested by hand. Grapes from vineyards in conversion were permitted from the second year. Neither additives nor pure yeast may be added to the must, nor is filtration permitted. Those responsible have divided the amount of sulphur into two categories. "Without added sulphur" means that the amount must be less than 10 mg per litre of wine. The second category allows up to 30 mg per liter. It must be indicated on the back label.
