The VDP and the Bundesliga club Mainz 05 have agreed to cooperate. The association gives its name to the newly created noble wine bar in the Opel Arena in Mainz. There, changing VDP wineries are to "serve a selection of their top wines", according to a VDP announcement. At the start of the cooperation, the home game against FC Bayern Munich, Philipp Wittmann, chairman of the VDP in Rheinhessen, presented his wines. The Ingelheim winery Schloss Westerhaus will be serving out wines at the home game against Werder Bremen on 4 November.

VDP President Steffen Christmann said: "Like the VDP, Mainz 05 also focuses on regionalism and class. Last but not least, many of our winegrowers are football crazy." Dr. Michael Welling, Director of Marketing & Sales at 1st FSV Mainz 05 adds: "The partnership with the VDP raises the range of our new wine bar to a higher level. Developing international quality from strong regional roots - that's what the VDP and Mainz 05 stand for."

According to the association, the opposing team should also be able to enjoy VDP wines. Instead of the traditional club pennant, a basket with "Weck, Worscht und Woi" will be handed over in future. For this purpose, VDP wines from the host winery will be provided with a special label for each match. One bottle will also be put aside for a charity box.
