The autumn auctions of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) on 21 and 23 September generated total proceeds of around 2.77 million euros. This represents a significant increase in results compared to previous years, the association reports.

At the auction of the Mosel wine region in Trier under the direction of Max von Kunow, around 1.49 million euros were collected. Egon Müller's 2017 Scharzhofberg Riesling Alte Reben Kabinett from Scharzhofberg Riesling Old Vines set a new world record of 250 euros per bottle.

In Bad Kreuznach, where VDP Honorary President Michael Prinz zu Salm-Salm led the auction, wines from the Nahe, Ahr, Rheinhessen and Pfalz growing regions came under the hammer. The total proceeds were around 1.28 million euros, with Rheinhessen accounting for around 952,000 euros, the Nahe for around 270,000 euros, the Palatinate for around 23,000 euros and the Ahr for around 36,000 euros. The front-runner was a 1921 Kupfergrube Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese in the 0.7-litre bottle from Gut Hermannsberg, which was finally auctioned off for 14,994 euros after a starting price of 350 euros.

The proceeds go to the "Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation", which supports environmental and climate protection projects.
