The auction house Christie's in London has announced the most expensive "Fine Wine" auctions of the past year. This category includes wine, port and whisky. According to this, whisky has outstripped wine for the first time: The year's highest price was shared by a 1926 Macallan single malt whisky, which fetched a whopping $1.5 million. Second and third place are occupied by wines from the Domaine Romanée Conti (DRC). A twelve-case DRC 1988 was awarded for 362,880 Dollars, a second case was just under that price. Another lot of six bottles of the same wine changed hands for $166,320. More whiskies followed.

Eighth, ninth and tenth places are also taken by rare wines: 12 bottles of Henri Jayer Cros Parantoux 1999 were knocked down for 136,955 dollars, a twelve-bottle case of Château Latour 1945 for 135,600 dollars and twelve bottles of DRC Montrachet 1986 for 120,960 dollars.
