In the Spanish region of Galicia, the police have broken up a wine counterfeiting ring which is said to have put some two million bottles on the market. This was reported by Meininger's International Wine Business. According to the report, the Guardia Civil searched eleven wineries and wine warehouses and arrested four suspects. Approximately 335,000 euros in cash had been seized.

The inferior wines had been offered with false DO seals by Bierzo and Tierra de Castilla and were to be sold at higher prices. Over 8,000 bottles had been taken out of circulation by the investigators.

The police have not yet revealed exactly which wines and producers are involved.
