The winners from the competition for the International Prize of the Silvaner Forum 2019 have been determined. The winemakers were awarded the Golden Vine Scissors for their best Silvaner wines by the chairman of the Silvaner Forum, Artur Steinmann.

Most of the 372 entries came from Franconia with 74 percent, followed by Rhinehesse with 18 percent. The wines were divided and rated in five categories: Basic (16.4%), Premium (52.4%), Solitaire (19.1%), Noble (7.3%) and Matured (4.8%), plus the special International rating.

A top-class jury consisting of wine journalists, sommeliers and experienced Silvaner connoisseurs tasted the samples from the German growing regions as well as from Italy and France at the Winzergemeinschaft Franken in Kitzingen-Repperndorf.

The winning wineries: are Clemens (Sulzheim) and Höfling (Eußenheim) in the "Basic" category, Weingut Manfred Braun (Nordheim) in the "Premium" category, Plackner-Wein (Veitshöchheim) in the "Solitär" category, WWeingut Juliusspital Würzburg) in the "Nobel" category, Weingut Brügel (Castell-Greuth) in the "Gereift" category and Stiftskellerei Neustift from Vahrn in the "International.

According to Artur Steinmann, chairman of the Silvaner Forum, Silvaner is increasingly positioning itself in the minds of wine lovers and experts as a great wine and food companion. Silvaner is "a grape variety that is characterised by its soil and at the same time versatile, with enormous potential".

In the "Solitär" category, for example, there were many wines from the 2017, 2016 and 2015 vintages in the competition; the winning wine in this category was even from the 2012 vintage. This was an indication of the "considerable maturation potential of Silvaner", which was highlighted by the top wines in the "Gereift" category.
