In an online poll by the German Wine Institute (DWI), more than 10,000 people voted for the "Most Beautiful Wine Views 2020" in the German wine regions. There were 48 proposals to choose from, which were submitted for the competition by the regional wine advertisements of the 13 wine regions. It took place for the third time after 2012 and 2016. After counting the approximately 24,000 votes - each participant was allowed to cast several votes - the following viewpoints were chosen as the "Most Beautiful Wine Views":
Ahr: Saffenburg castle ruins near Mayschoß
Bath: View into the interior of the Kaiserstuhl near Oberbergen
Franconia: Terroir of Stetten
Hessische Bergstrasse: Herrnberg vineyard near Groß-Umstadt
Middle Rhine: Nürer Kopf near Leutesdorf
Moselle: Hambuchhütte near Lieser
Nearby: Hiking trail near Niedernhausen
Rheingau: Ruin Nollig, Lorch

"The most beautiful wine view" is awarded to viewpoints that offer impressive views of the German wine culture landscapes and are easy to reach for hikers or by bike. During the course of the year, each of the 13 viewpoints will be marked on site with a clearly visible stele by the Mainz artist Ulrich Schreiber as "Schönste Weinsicht 2020".
