The Russian Federation has for the first time placed the indication of origin of a French wine under legal protection. After more than two years of negotiations between representatives of the AOC and the Russian trademark protection authority Rospatent, it has been protected since October 2019. However, this has only just become known. This is the first step towards preventing consumers from being misled and the reputation of the appellation being damaged by counterfeit wines, writes the Côtes de Provence Winegrowers' Association. In the next step, the AOC managers should try to have them protected in China as well. There, negotiations are already at an advanced stage to obtain the registration of the AOC Côtes de Provence in Western spelling and in Mandarin.
