The Roederer Champagne House has taken over the Pinot Noir vineyard Merry Edwards Winery in Sonoma (California). The company is considered a specialist in the grape variety and also produces Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The highly respected winery, which has received international awards for its wines, owns 32 hectares of vineyards. The purchase price is not known.

Roederer already owns three wineries in California: In 1982 the company founded Roederer Estate in Anderson Valley, in addition to which it owns Scharffenberger Cellars and, since 2012, Domaine Anderson.

The 71-year-old founder and winemaker Merry Edwards will be managing the winery with her husband only for a transitional period. Two years ago she handed over the responsibility as winemaker to her deputy Heidi von der Mehden.
