The Rheinhessen Winegrowers' Association has worked out the decisive points for the upcoming reform of the designation law. Those responsible want to retain the existing large vineyards and areas, but generally do without the names of the municipalities, reported the "Weinwirtschaft".
The existing large vineyards are to be integrated into the classification of the areas of a wine-growing region. The naming of individual vineyards will only be possible in combination with the producer or estate bottling.
The winegrowers' association has also found a position on quantity limits: For local wines, the maximum yield is to be 80 hl per hectare. For wines from single vineyard sites, the quantity is to be limited to 60 hl per hectare. In addition, the association demands precisely defined rules on must weight, yield and bottling information.
