The fifth Palatinate Wine Forum "Wein am Dom" ended with a record attendance on Sunday, 2.4.2017. More than 3700 wine lovers were counted by the organizers, the Chamber of Agriculture Rhineland-Palatinate and the Pfalzwein e.V. Around 170 companies presented about 1,000 wines at the largest exhibition of Palatinate wine. The number of participants was thus higher than ever before, and the advance sale had already indicated a rush of visitors: 1500 wine lovers had already purchased a ticket before the start to taste the huge range on offer.

According to the organisers, a striking number of young wine lovers went on a journey of discovery around the cathedral. The sunny weather and the flair of Speyer's historic city centre had created a relaxed atmosphere. While the visitors crowded the stands of the wineries and winegrowers' cooperatives directly after the start of the trade fair on Saturday at 1 p.m. - at the end of the day, 2,400 visitors had already been counted - Sunday had started off with a restrained mood, said Dr. Detlev Janik, Managing Director of Pfalzwein-Werbung. Only at lunchtime did the venues fill up. According to Janik, it is particularly pleasing that the advance sales are used more and more from year to year and that the majority of wine lovers come by bus and train.

This year the focus of interest was on Pinot Blanc, which Palatinate wine had chosen as the "Grape variety of the year". Pinot Gris was also very popular with visitors, of the aromatic varieties Sauvignon blanc was the star: "Sauvignon blanc always goes," said one winegrower. The opportunity to taste the new vintage was also intensively used.
