The Italian Ministry of Agriculture has now finally approved the Prosecco Rosé DOC. The necessary regulation is expected to come into force in a few weeks. With the 2020 harvest, the first official Prosecco Rosé can be produced. The DOC producers had already expected the approval for the 2019 harvest.

According to the now approved rules, Prosecco DOC Rosé may only be produced from the traditional grape variety Glera with a minimum of 10 to maximum of 15 percent Pinot Nero. It is the only approved red variety. The sparkling wine lasts at least two months, twice as long as the white Prosecco DOC. It is possible that the first sparkling wines will be in stores by the end of 2020, as the necessary Pinot Nero has already been produced and stored in 2019.
