The prices of French vineyards have risen significantly on average in 2019. The total value of the 9,200 transactions involving 18,300 hectares was 987 million euros. This was announced by Loïc Jégouzo, an analyst at the agricultural and forestry association FNSafer. According to his figures, the number of sales rose by nine percent, but the proceeds were 17 percent higher than in the previous year. The development of prices differs greatly from one region to another, he said.

For example, the land prices for average red wine areas in the Bordelais fell by around nine percent to an average of 15,000 euros per hectare. For the first time, however, prices in Champagne also fell by around two percent to 1.1 million euros. This was due to the difficulty of estimating future export revenues.

The prices per hectare for AOC wines as a whole, at an average of 148,000 euros, had remained at the level of 2018. The significant price increase was mainly due to the very significant increases in the sale of top sites.
