The people in charge of the Loire appellation Montlouis-sur-Loire want to create the world's first A.O.C for the sparkling wine Petillant Naturel ("PetNat"). For more than three years, the members of the association have been in discussion with the "Institut national de l'origine et de la qualité" (INAO) about the rules. PetNats have been produced in Touraine for 15 years, but so far they have had to be declared as "Vin de France" because of the way they are produced, said Damien Delecheneau, the association's chairman. But now the requirements for the AOC status have been clarified. According to him, the first AOC PetNats should be able to be produced in 2020.
