The famous "Pingus" winemaker Peter Sisseck from Spain wants to produce highest quality Fino-Sherry. To this end, Sisseck, who comes from Denmark, has bought three "Solera" series of barrels with a total of 400 barrels and eight hectares of vineyards from Bodegas Juan Piñero in Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Cádiz. They are located in the Pago Balbainas, one of the oldest and most famous areas of the Jerez Sherry region, at a height of 92 metres above sea level.

For almost a decade, Sisseck had been dreaming of producing sherry, he explained his motives to "Drinks Business". For him, it was the logical development of his ront wine work on the limestone soils of the Ribera del Duero region and Saint Emilion in the Bordelais. In this project he is working with Carlos del Rio Gordon-Diez, a relative of the owners of the renowned sherry producer Gonzalez-Byass.

Sisseck stressed that his Fino sherry would not be offered in large quantities, but also "at astronomical Pingus prices". The work is still in an early stage, however. Nevertheless, the first bottles would probably be offered next year. The name of the Fino has not yet been decided.
