In Austria, the 500 million euro support package for the catering industry also includes the abolition of the tax on sparkling wine. It is also intended to relieve the burden on businesses. Its abolition had already been demanded by the sparkling wine producers for a long time and discussed in politics.
The tax was introduced in 2014 and amounts to one euro per litre. According to the plans, the savings should benefit the gastronomy as well as the consumers. Further details of the "landlord package" are not yet known.
