So far, only three wineries have succeeded in producing an Eiswein of the 2018 vintage. The German Wine Institute in Bodenheim near Mainz has so far received three communications from winegrowers in the Nahe, Baden and Saale-Unstrut wine regions, its spokesman Ernst Büscher told the German Press Agency (dpa). One of them is the winegrower Lorenz Keller in Klettgau-Erzingen (District Waldshut) in Baden. The grapes from 750 Pinot Noir vines were harvested there on 3 January. Now, according to the winery, about 400 litres are maturing in oak barrels.

In addition, a winery in Monzingen on the Nahe River was able to harvest an ice wine at minus 8.5 degrees Celsius on Boxing Day, Büscher told the dpa. However, since the wine was not sufficiently acidic for ice wine, the winery would now sell it as "Christmas selection". Furthermore, Büscher said that a winery in Salzatal (Saale-Unstrut) had already succeeded in harvesting Eiswein on 28 November 2018.
