The Franconian wine village Nordheim am Main wants to celebrate its 1100th birthday with "the largest wine tasting in the world". 36 Nordheim wineries want to open at least 1100 different wines on Saturday, 21 April 2018. On April 21, 918, 1100 years ago, King Konrad I documented the donation of two vineyards in Nordheim to the monastery of Münster-Schwarzach. With this the community wants to secure the world record for the "largest wine tasting in the world" according to the number of wines served. Participation costs eleven euros and includes any number of samples, the anniversary glass and the record catalogue.

At 11.00 a.m. Mayor Guido Braun will open the wine tasting at the Mariensäule in front of the town hall. The tasting will take place in the centre of the village along the main street and Langgasse, where the wines - separated by wineries - are arranged on long rows of tables. Numerous samples from the current vintages, but also many matured treasures are waiting for the visitors. The oldest wine is a 1969.
