A port wine of the 1863 vintage from Niepoort, filled in a bottle from the traditional producer Lalique, has reached an auction record in Hong Kong. At Sotheby's auction, the bottle fetched the equivalent of $134,000. This is a new record price for port wine, the auction house said. The proceeds are to go to the nature conservation organisation "The Nature Conservancy".

Five Demijohn bottles of this year's port were filled by Lalique. Each of them contains the name of one of the five generations of the Niepoort family. Two bottles have now been auctioned off. The first one generated proceeds of around 126,500 US dollars.
