On Monday, the new winegrowers of the "Generation Palatinate" 2018/2019 presented themselves and their wines to the public in the Garden Hall of Wachenheim Palace. The 20 companies will be promoting the region around the German Wine Route for one year. "These young winegrowers under the age of forty, who work with head and heart in their businesses and play a major role in the development of wine there, give a face to the dynamic Palatinate wine scene," explained Gerhard Brauer, second chairman of Pfalzwein-Werbung, on the occasion of the presentation of the certificates. On behalf of Pfalzwein-Werbung, these young and creative minds are now standing up for the entire Palatinate wine region and its future for twelve months throughout Germany.

In a two-day tasting of more than 200 wines, a six-member jury of renowned sommeliers and journalists, headed by Peer F. Holm, President of the German Sommelier Union, selected the "Top 20". Each company was represented with five wines. These wines were tasted "blind" and evaluated individually. The cross-section of all five individual evaluations formed the basis for the selection.

The competition was announced for the fourth time in 2018. More than 40 Palatinate wineries and winegrowers' cooperatives had applied to be accepted into the "Generation Palatinate". The previous generations had presented their wines in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Dresden, Cologne and other major German cities at specialist tastings with sommeliers, wine retailers and restaurateurs. A research trip organized by Pfalzwein-Werbung is currently leading sommeliers from all over Germany to meet the members of the previous Generation Palatinate.
