New record prices for wine were achieved at an auction of the Sotheby's auction house in New York. At the auction of two single bottles of 1945 Romanée Conti, the buyers paid 496,000 and 558,000 dollars. They are now considered the most expensive wines in the world.

The world-famous winery produced only 600 bottles of the vintage. In the following year the legendary vineyard was completely replanted. The two bottles come from the cellar of Robert Drouhin, the owner of the Burgundy Maison Joseph Drouhin. They were bought by him and his father Maurice directly from the cellar inventory of the domain when Maison Joseph Drouhin was active as exclusive distributor of Romanée Conti in France and Belgium.

The auction house did not disclose the names of the buyers.
