At the beginning of 2020, a newly classified production area was created in Burgundy: Bourgogne Côte d'Or AOC covers about 1,000 hectares of vineyards with the grape varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Significantly stricter rules apply to wine production than previously with Bourgogne AOC. For example, at least 9,000 vines per hectare are required, compared to only 5,000 for Bourgogne AOC, with a yield of 58 hl per hectare for red wine and 66 hl for white wine. All wines must come from the Côte d'Or, with the vines located on the foothills and edges of the Village vineyards.
