The "Young Sommelier of the Year 2020" is Benedikt Höret from Heidelberg. He won the annual competition, which is organized by Sommelier-Union Germany in cooperation with the Heidelberg Hotel Management School, the magazine "Sommelier" and other partners. Second place went to Sebastian Schaan from Maxdorf, third place went to Patrick Aichlseder from Wels in Austria.
Benedikt Höret has gained professional experience in renowned restaurants, including the Köhlerstube in the Hotel Traube Tonbach and as assistant sommelier on the MS Europa. He began his career with an apprenticeship as a hotel specialist and a degree in business administration, which he completed in 2019 at the Hotel Management School in Heidelberg.
The jury was convinced by him "due to his profound expertise in both the written and the practical part of the competition and his confident appearance". In addition, he proved in the examination "a lot of eloquence, charm and knowledge in serving guests".
