The Düsseldorf trade fair company has cancelled ProWein, the world's largest wine fair, which was to have taken place from 15 to 17 March, due to the risk of infection by the corona virus. This was reported by several media, such as the "Falstaff" or the "Weinwirtschaft" with reference to those responsible in the organisation. Whether the fair will be cancelled in 2020 or at a later date is not yet known. A statement by the ProWein managers is expected in the course of the day (Saturday, 20.2.2020).

Since the cancellation of the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in Berlin, many wine professionals have expected the cancellation. In addition, news of cancellations by major exhibitors as well as international buyers, representatives and sales staff has been circulating in the social media and among industry professionals for several days. In Italy alone, which is currently heavily affected by Corona, 1,606 of a total of 6,900 exhibitors have registered. A large number of buyers and importers from China are expected to attend.
