The VDP vineyard Maximin Grünhaus in Mertesdorf near Trier has produced a wine from the historical vineyard estate of the Marx family for Karl Marx's 200th birthday. The Riesling from the Herrenberg site is called "Das Kapital" and has been bottled in a quantity of 1300 bottles. It was served in Trier on the occasion of the birthday celebration.

The Marx family had owned over two hectares of vineyards in the Herrenberg for about 30 years. Karl Marx's father, the Trier lawyer Heinrich Marx, had bought the southwest parcels as an investment. After the death of his father in 1838, Karl Marx became the owner of the vineyard until his mother paid him for the inheritance. When his mother also died, Karl Marx sold the last five full barrels of wine, which were stored in the cellar of his house in Trier.

The Herrenberg Riesling is now sold exclusively in the Weinhaus Trier in Trier, which is located directly opposite Marx's birthplace
