A few days ago a massive hailstorm in the south of Champagne destroyed about 500 hectares of vineyards. According to the magazine "Decanter", the Côte de Bar region with the villages of Les Riceys, Vitry-le-Croisé and Neuville, planted with Pinot Noir, was particularly affected. The storm is said to have caused hailstorms, some the size of golf balls, to destroy the young shoots. At least 20 percent of the vines in the production area were damaged.
The region had already suffered hail on 29 April, but with less severe damage.
