The Italian Maremma Toscana DOC, introduced in 2011, has become the third largest of the 41 DOC areas in Tuscany. This was announced by the local wine growers' association. It currently has 314 members and around 1150 hectares of vineyards. With an annual production of slightly more than 1.6 million bottles in 2019, more than a third of the entire Tuscany would be produced there by now. The white wine Vermentino is mainly responsible for the growth, growing there on 747 ha.
