Patrick Léon, one of the most influential winemakers in France, died of cancer a few days ago at the age of 75. In his more than 50 years of work, he worked as an oenologist for highly renowned establishments such as Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Lascombes in Bordelais, Château d'Esclans in Provence, Almaviva in Chile and Opus One in the Napa Valley. His start in the early 1980s brought Mouton-Rothschild to the forefront as technical director. He was also responsible for the wines of all the companies in the Mouton-Rothschild Group. He graduated in oenology in 1964 from the world-famous viticulture professor and consultant Emile Peynaud. In 1995 he and his wife Yvette bought the Château Les Trois Croix in the Fronsac. He was active as a winemaker until the end.
