In 2018, twelve percent of the vineyards in France will have been organically cultivated, for a total of 94,020 ha. This is reported by the state organic information platform Agence Bio. This is an increase of 20 percent compared to 2017. Of this, 13,968 ha are in the first year after the completed conversion phase. This is an increase of 61 percent compared to 2017. The number of organic farms has increased by 15 percent to 6,726.

"Ten years ago, nobody expected that we could achieve such high figures," said Florent Guhl, director of Agence Bio, at a press conference in Paris. He stressed that the strong growth was due to the great demand for organic wines in France. In the past two years, he said, exports of French organic wines had not increased. The wines are therefore drunk in the country.
