The President of the Palatinate Winegrowers' Association, Klaus Schneider from Dirmstein, was elected the new President of the German Winegrowers' Association (DWV) on 22 May 2017. He succeeds Norbert Weber, who had led the Federal Association for twenty years.

The general meeting of DWV also elected new vice-presidents: They are Ingo Steitz from Badenheim (Rheinhessen), Heinz-Uwe Fetz (Mittelrhein), Hermann Hohl (Württemberg), Kilian Schneider (Baden) and Dieter Weidmann (Deutscher Raiffeisenverband).

Since 1986, DWV President Klaus Schneider and his wife have been running a winery in Dirmstein/Palatinate, the Jesuitenhof, with about 25 hectares of vineyards. Since 2012 their son Moritz has been involved in the management of the estate. After an apprenticeship as a winegrower, Schneider studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Geisenheim and graduated with a degree in viticulture and cellar management. Since 1992, Klaus Schneider has been involved in the profession on a voluntary basis and has worked on the committees of the Palatinate Winegrowers' Association. After many years of involvement in the main committee, he was elected President of the Palatinate Winegrowers' Association in 2015 and Vice President of DWV in 2016. Furthermore, he is a member of the overall board of the BWV.

Schneider wants to coordinate his work program with his colleagues in the DWV Presidium and adds: "The German Winegrowers' Association has defined a strategic guideline for its activities until 2020, which is our winegrowing policy orientation" The focal points of his work are: "To transform the old quality system into a new system of origin, to adapt the German wine law to Brussels law, to pursue the strategy of sustainable viticulture with regard to soil, water and energy management and, taking into account changed production and sales structures and the role of wine in the life worlds 2030 to 2050, to further develop visions for the future of German wine sales
