Kathrin Puff will become Chief Oenologist at the Hessian State Wineries in Kloster Eberbach (Rheingau) on April 1, 2018. She succeeds Ralf Bengel, who will move to Schloss Vollrads in 2018.

The 39-year-old winemaker, who comes from Krefeld, has worked for the Siam Winery in Thailand for the past ten years. As Director of Viticulture and Cellar Technology, she was responsible for over 100 employees and produced many award-winning wines. Prior to that, she managed the wine production at the top winery Dievole in Tuscany and gained experience during two wine harvests in New Zealand. Kathrin Puff completed her education as the first European graduate of a double diploma in viticulture and oenology at the universities of Geisenheim and Udine (Italy) in 2004.

According to a press release, she is to lead the team at Kloster Eberbach "with her many years of experience in viticulture and oenology and her good contacts in the international wine scene". "With Kathrin Puff we are gaining an ambitious manager with international experience," commented Dieter Greiner, managing director of the VDP winery, on the decision. "In view of climate change and the different microclimates of our vineyards, which are located up to one hundred kilometres apart, Kathrin Puff's experience in producing top-quality wines in different climatic conditions is particularly valuable."
