According to a press release, the Italian oenologists' association Assoenolgi expects around 55.8 million hl of wine this year. This would be around 20 percent more than in the difficult year 2017, based on figures from a survey on 31 August. At that time only 15 percent of the grapes had been harvested.

According to the figures from Assoenolgi, the harvest volume is increasing particularly strongly in Lazio / Umbria with 35 percent and in Emilia Romagna with 30 percent. In all other regions, the volume increase is between 15 and 25 percent. Assoenolgi expects the largest total harvest volume to be in Apulia with almost 12 million hl. and in Veneto with 10.3 million hl.

In 2018, the farms had to contend above all with the spread of fungal infections, and in some growing regions hail and heavy rain in August. The association experts expect good to excellent grape quality.
