Historical corkscrews are becoming rare and expensive collector's items. At an online auction on the website collectorcorkscrews.com, sponsored by the British auction house ICC Auctions, a patented Thomason corkscrew already achieved the record price of almost 19,000 euros in November 2018. It dates from the 18th century and is decorated with elaborate lacquer. However, the British Corkscrew Collecting Club has only just announced this.
Other rare and excellently preserved models from this period have been sold in recent years at prices between 1,000 and 8,000 Euros. The next online auction with corkscrews will take place at collectorcorkscrews.com between 12 and 18 April 2019.
