Henkell & Co has announced the acquisition of the Hevia and Bonet families' shares in the Spanish cava producer Freixenet S.A. The European Commission has approved the transaction. Freixenet will now be continued on an equal footing in a cooperation between Henkell and the remaining Freixenet shareholders José Ferrer Sala and José Luis Bonet Ferrer. Following a Freixenet capital increase by the Honorary Chairman of Freixenet, José Ferrer Sala, he and José Luis Bonet own 50 per cent of the share capital of Freixenet S.A., while the Henkell Group holds the other 50 per cent. Henkell & Co is the sparkling wine, wine and spirits division of the Oetker Group.

According to Henkell, the Spanish-German cooperation will create the "world's leading sparkling wine group", which will give both partners "access to new markets and distribution channels in order to achieve sustainable growth". Freixenet is the number one in the international sparkling wine market with leading market positions and sales in more than 100 countries. The Henkell & Co. Group has leading market positions in many international markets, including Mionetto as the world's best-selling Prosecco. Pedro Ferrer and Dr. Andreas Brokemper, Chairman of the Henkell Management Board, were appointed Managing Directors.
