The winegrowers in the Baden growing region are expecting a significantly reduced harvest this year. The managing director of the Baden Winegrowers' Association, Peter Wohlfarth, explained at the autumn press conference that the average yield will currently be around 70 hectolitres per hectare. This is about 10 percent less yield than the average for the years 2002 to 2010, he said, and in the past years, only 2013 and 2010 had seen even lower average yields. The main reasons were frost, hail and drought.
The grape harvest in Baden had already begun on 28 August with feather whitening. Since 4 September, the winegrowers have been harvesting in the frost-damaged plants, with the main harvest starting on 11 September.
