The Baden winegrowers' cooperatives Oberkircher Winzer and Hex vom Dasenstein in Kappelrodeck have merged to form Oberkircher Winzer eG. At the general meetings of the two cooperatives, 85 and 88 percent of the members voted in favour. The Oberkirch winegrowers now have 672 hectares of vineyards. The new cooperative is now the third largest in Baden and one of the ten largest in Germany.

"The landscape on the cooperative scene will change faster than we are perhaps aware. This process will accelerate significantly in the coming years", said Markus Ell, managing director of the Oberkirch winegrowers, about the necessity of merging the trade journal "Der deutsche Weinbau".

Both cooperatives have already been cooperating intensively for five years. Further synergies from the merger would help to secure the existence of the companies and the preservation of the vineyards. Both locations would therefore be retained. The production of Hex vom Dasenstein wines would remain in Kappelrodeck with its own cellar master.
