The Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences is announcing the German Winery Award for the second time after 2014. In this competition, it is not the wine that is judged, but all the other criteria that are relevant for customers before, during and after the purchase. These include above all the acquisition of new customers and customer loyalty. The Geisenheim University announced that all wine producers who want to improve their private customer business and farm sales can participate.

In the competition for the German Wine Estate Award 2018, the university's students will act as experts from the customer's point of view and will prepare an analysis for each participating producer, which should provide detailed and neutral feedback. This method of evaluation was developed by students of the Geisenheim University under the direction of Prof. Dr. Robert Göbel.

They are all about to complete their studies and can now apply their collected knowledge and pass it on to the wineries in the form of advisory information. Organised in small teams, the students slip into the role of customers, work on the basis of a structured methodology and visit the wineries.

The project for the German Winery Award will start with the analysis and evaluation in November 2017, the award ceremony is in June 2018. A top-class jury will assess the evaluations beforehand. The project is supported by Sparda-Bank Hessen .

The call for entries is aimed primarily at wineries, cooperatives and private wineries with a high proportion of direct marketing. The closing date for applications is 30 October 2017
