Wine consumption in France will continue to fall over the next three years, while world consumption will increase slightly. This is the result of a study conducted by the Vinexpo wine fair and the market research company International Wine and Spirit Research.
According to the study, the French are expected to drink around 13 per cent less wine in 2020 than in 2013, according to the French media. From 100 litres per capita in 1975, average wine consumption in France has fallen to 47 litres in 2016 and will only be 43.63 litres in 2020. At 12.47 per cent, red wine has seen the biggest drop over the last three years, while white wine consumption has fallen by 4.26 per cent over the same period. On the other hand, rosé wine (plus 0.52 percent) and sparkling wine (plus 4 percent) have increased.
Contrary to the development in France, wine consumption worldwide increased slightly by 0.4 percent compared to the previous year, according to the 2016 study.
