The grape producers and estates of Champagne have set the 2018 harvest quantity at 10,800 kg of grapes per hectare, as in the previous year. This was announced by the Comité Interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne (CIVC). With this relatively high yield, the association wants to keep Champagne stocks in balance. The small harvests of the previous years would have led to withdrawals from the harvest reserves. This should be used to replenish them. The CIVC is also expecting a very early start to the harvest as early as 20 August.

The year 2018 will be marked by extremes in the Champagne region: Between November 2017 and January 2018, the record rainfall averaged 345 mm; the previous record of 338 mm dates back to 1965. Between April and June, the sun shone for around 750 hours - the annual average is 630 hours. In addition, temperatures have so far been significantly higher than the ten-year average.
